CHAIRMAN: Stan Maiden, previously Group Research Director, BAA plc
Morning Seminar

Stan Maiden recently retired from BAA after a career of over 40 years, the last 25 years of which were spent as Research Director.

Although Stan’s major responsibility at BAA throughout his career was in the field of air traffic statistics and forecasting, he developed in 1986 an in-house full service market research team at BAA which was the first of its kind in the world.

In the late 1980’s Stan led the team in developing a continuous research tool among BAA’s seven airports known as the Quality of Service Monitor, or QSM.   This model has since been adopted by airports and regulatory bodies around the world.

In 2001 Stan convinced ACI that it was time that airports around the world should develop, and manage, a benchmarking survey of passenger opinions on various aspects of service at airports.   At the time it was launched in 2004 with 45 participating airports, the aim of what was initially called the AETRA survey was to achieve a total of 75 airports.   Now known as the ASQ it counts roughly 250 airports as members and has become of growing significance to the airports involved.
